Day 1: Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, transfer to hotel. Evening free to relax and enjoy the city's lively nightlife. Try a rooftop barbecue at 3T Restaurant, followed by a drink at a nearby watering hole such as the Drunken Duck or Voodoo.

Day 2: Enjoy a full-day tour of the city, either taking our standard sightseeing tour or doing a tour tailored to your requirements - food, markets, antiques, art. The choice is yours. Evening free to enjoy more great food, maybe trying fresh seafood at Hong Hai, or great value French bistro fare at Le Jardin.

Day 3; After a morning visit to the legendary and fascinating Cu Chi tunnel complex, attend the midday service at the bizarre, colourful Cao Dai temple at Tay Ninh, In the afternoon, visit the Wildlife at Risk Shelter, which does sterling work looking after mistreated wild animals. Evening free for more gastronomy -maybe a sampling of local dishes at Ben Thanh night market, or a blowout at one of the copious hotel buffets.

Day 4: This morning it's time to head south down to the Mekong Delta, kicking off with a 5-hour boat cruise of the water-ways around Ben Tre. In the evening, join a local family for cooking demonstration, dinner, and overnight homestay.

Day 5: l'n the morning, visit Ben Tre's bustling riverside market, before a more leisurely cycle or horse & cart ride along the sleepy lanes of Tan Thach, before returning to HCMC via Vinh Trang pagoda in My Tho. Evening free for more food & nightlife - try a gourmet Vietnamese meal at Hoa Tuc, followed by cocktails and a dance at Vasco's.

Day 6: This morning, drive to Cat Tien National Park and spend the afternoon spotting birds, monkeys and elephants, before spending the night in the forest.

Day 7: After breakfast in the forest, drive to the hill station town of Dalai where you can visit the bustling market or take a trekking/biking trip in the surrounding bills. Spend the evening relaxing in one of the town's numerous cafes or enjoying great local food at Co Ba Vung Tau restaurant.

Day 8; After a morning exploring Dalat and its surroundings, transfer in the afternoon to Mui Ne for a couple of days' beach time, In the evening, try a fresh seafood meal at Cay Bang followed by a few drinks at Sankara or Hot Rock.

Day 9: Full day free in Mui Ne - either relax on the beach, play a round of golf, try your hand at watersports such as kiteboarding or windsurfing, or visit nearby attractions such as the White Sand Dunes and Mui Ne fishing village. In the evening, have terrific Indian food at Shree Ganesh (our favourite Indian in the country) or a gourmet meal and some good wine at Sailing Club.

Day 10: After a morning's relaxation on the beach, return to HCMC for your onward travel.

Phu Quoc & Con Dao

Phu Quoc is by far the country's most popular island getaway, a stunning tropical paradise of quiet beaches, clear seas, dirt roads and pristine rainforest. Con Dao is even quieter, wilder, and less-developed. Whilst Phu Quoc is nirvana for beach junkies, Con Dao offers superb trekking, biking and birdwatching/monkey-spotting in its gorgeous National Park.

South-Central Highlands

If city life and beaches aren't to your taste, get away from it all in the South Central Highlands. Nature lovers will love doing an overnight stay in Cat Tien National Park, home to many rare bird and animal species; cyclists and trekkers will enjoy the cool air and mountain roads of Dalat; and if meeting local people is your thing, try a tribal village homestay in the hills around the coffee centre of Buon Me Thuot.
